Kelly and I were on a walk last evening when I spotted a couple of birds flying overhead that had a strange wing shape.
My initial thought after the minimal glimpse was falcon, but it just didn’t look right, and I couldn’t think of a falcon that would be in that area of Arlington.
My second thought was kite, but the kites I had seen so far in Texas were much lighter than what I had seen flying. I dismissed it as a missed ID and we kept walking.
After a bit more walking and a stop at a gym for an easy raid, I spotted this guy in a tree. I have shitty luck taking pics with my Android—I’ve never taken the time to really delve into figuring out how to make it work for—but I got this and a couple of other shots.
Unless I’m mistaken, this is a Mississippi Kite.
It really made me miss birding, and I really hope to get out soon and get some quality time in at some local birding spots. But, damn it’s hot, and there are a ton of maskless idiots out there swarming the parks.
Alas…
